De-Mystifying the Preciousness of Art
The Artapult is a mechanical device
designed and fabricated by Cameron J. Smith in the year 2032 and
brought back through a time portal using the Way Back Machine.
Actually, the Artapult was conceived
by Cameron in the Spring of 1985. He announced the idea
as a part of his M.A. show in September of '85. It
was constucted over the next two years by Cam at his studio in
Fallbrook, Ca..
Thanksgiving week in 1987 brought
the first public display of the Artapult. After many travels
Cameron settled in Southern Illinois and in 1994 the first Artapult
Day was celebrated. Artists from all around brought pieces
of their work and a great time was had by all.
The Artapults' purpose is to help
demystify the preciousness of Art. By allowing artists to
gather and fling pieces of their art towards a target up to 100
ft. away, Cameron hopes change the perception of art and it's
value in the community.
